The Silicone Gel Breast Implant Lawsuits Began
Lawsuits were filed by thousands of women against the various manufacturers of silicone breast implants. Silicone-gel filled breast implants were first introduced in the early 1960’s. This was the small-breasted woman’s answer. Women could be transformed from a size AA cup to a voluptuous DD.
The Breast Implant Promise Turned To Nightmare

Premarket Approval Applications from silicone breast implant manufacturers were due by July 1991. After the PMA’s are submitted by the manufacturers, the FDA would have 180 days to evaluate the safety data. The silicone leaked into their body and the immune system was unable to rid itself of the alien substance. Diseases included: siliconosis, undifferentiated or atypical connective tissue disease, silicone related disease, silicone reactive disorder, silicone disease syndrome, and silicone implant disease (SID). The result was cognitive dysfunction, short-term memory loss, Sjgren’s syndrome (dryness in glands, such as the mouth, kidneys, eyes, and lungs), scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, dermatomyositis, severe joint and muscle pain, incapacitating fatigue, swollen lymph glands, skin problems, peripheral numbness, multiple allergies, headaches, hair loss, sunlight sensitivity, central nervous system disorders (similar to multiple sclerosis), etc.
